The film presents four Australian utopian communities that have survived for over 30 years. The communities of Moora Moora, Bodhi Farm, Dharmananda and Equilibrium responded to the invitation by directors Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen to write a fictional short film that would reflect their principles, challenges and survival strategies. In The Making of Utopia the collectively written short films, the workshops that led to them, and interviews of the inhabitants are intertwined into a unique portrait of the new challenges for old communities.
