The Chinese Room is a computer-generated 3D animation. The film portrays a futuristic society, as if seen through a surveillance monitor. In the animation, video and computer surveillance have become a natural part of daily life. The computer-generated characters that populate the world of The Chinese Room invoke the animation industry’s ideal of simulated actors, an idea provoked by a research agenda where things are done just because they are technically possible. The question of what we can know about each other extends into fodder for reality-tv, resulting to alienation and paranoia.
