‘Cold Interrogation’ deals with the constant questioning experienced by an Arab, Muslim and Iraqi individual living in a western society. Since Abidin left Iraq in 2000, he has faced questions about his identity on daily basis. An appliance we walk up to everyday is transformed into an interrogator, a video projected inside continuously questions the role of the Arab-Muslim identity in a post 9/11 world. The viewer walks up to the refrigerator and places their eye to the peephole in order to watch a video of a man asking rapid-fire questions like: “How did you end up in Finland? How is the situation in Iraq right now? What do you think of Osama bin Laden? How does it feel to ride a camel? Are you with the war, do you support it?” When these harsh questions are aimed at the viewer, the witness becomes the interrogated.
