In ‘Abidin Travels’ the artist created a fake travel agency to promote exotic and adventurous holidays to Baghdad. Within the installation are posters, brochures (available in Arabic, English, Chinese, French, Finnish, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish), a website where the audience can book ‘tickets’ which they receive via email with an itinerary, and two videos. One of these videos, accompanying the ticket booking facility, is an animated commercial advertising the chance to win a holiday. The other video consists of a montage of graphic news footage from Baghdad set to a soundtrack of instruments being played by American soldiers. A voice-over read by an American woman welcomes visitors and describes the tourist attractions.
