Transit by Lauri Astala and Rearranged by Ewa Górzna selected for the Main Competition of OFF - Odense International Film Festival, August 24 - 30

AV-arkki is pleased to announce that the films Transit by Lauri Astala and Rearranged by Ewa Górzna have been selected to the Main Competition of OFF15 – Odense International Film Festival, to take place in Odense, Denmark, between August 24 and 30.
Organised since 1975, OFF is Denmark’s oldest international short film festival. OFF is an Oscar qualifying festival, and the winners from the Main Competition, Danish Competition and Animation Competition will be in the running for an Oscar nomination in the pre-jury of the Academy Awards in Hollywood.
Astala’s Transit presents documentary shots of New York are altered by camera movements, angles and framing. This builds up a new fictitious urban space, whose visual familiarity stems from the history of film. The theme of Transit revolves around the collective visual ideas and notions of the urban environment.
In June, Transit will also participate in the International Competition of the 31st Hamburg International Short Film Festival in Germany.
Lauri Astala (b. 1958) is one of of the most distinguished media artists in Finland. He has studied in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and Chicago Art Institute. Astala makes sculptures, videos and installations that concentrate in our concepts and experiences of space and the ways in which cultural structures shapes them. His works have been presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1989, including Eyebeam in New York (2013), Gallery Heino in Helsinki (2008, 2012), Helsinki Art Museum (2010), KUMU art museum in Tallinn (2008) and Institut finlandais in Paris (2008). In 2007, Astala was awarded with the Finnish State Prize for Visual Arts.
Ewa Górzna’s Rearranged is a calmly flowing journey through the space submitted to an unexpected transformation. It reveals a surreal moment when the wild enters the conventional rearranging the established order according to unrestrained turbulent rules.
Rearranged was presented in the Nordic Competition of the 27th Minimalen Short Film Festival in April 2015, and the film was awarded with the Grand Prix at the 7th One Take Film Festival in Zagreb, Croatia in 2014.
Ewa Górzna (b. 1982) is a visual artist from Poland based in Helsinki, who works with video and video installation. She has studied in the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland and the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Her works have been presented in exhibitions and festivals in e.g. Finland, Iran, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Poland.
