Barbieworld Experience Part 1 – Overture by Dave Berg and Transit by Lauri Astala participate in the International Competition Prix Videoformes at this year’s VIDEOFORMES – 30th Digital Arts International Festival organised in Clermont-Ferrand in France between March 18 and April 4.

The Prix Videoformes competition reflects the diversity of styles, artistic universe and innovative forms of video today. Films by Berg and Astala were chosen by a jury of international professionals from a total of 611 videos from 52 countries, out of which 68 were selected to the competition programme.

The jury members in 2015 are Abir Boukhari (artist and artistic director of AllArtNow, Damascus, Syria), Philippe Franck (director of Transcultures, artist and teacher, Mons, Belgium) and Paul Ouazan (co-head of Research Workshop of Arte France, Paris, France). Winners of Prix Videoformes are announced on Saturday, March 21.

Lauri Astala (b. 1958) lives in Helsinki, Finland and Avalon, France. He has studied in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and Chicago Art Institute. Astala is one of of the most distinguished media artists in Finland. He makes sculptures, videos and installations, that concentrate on our concepts and experiences of space and the ways in which cultural structures shapes them. His works have been presented at numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1989, including Eyebeam in New York (2013), Gallery Heino in Helsinki (2008, 2012), Helsinki Art Museum (2010) KUMU art museum in Tallinn (2008) and Institut finlandais in Paris (2008). In 2007, Astala was awarded with the Finnish State Prize for Visual Arts.

Dave Berg (b. 1981) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. Computer animation, intensity and poetic narration are typical for Berg’s works. His works have been presented at various art and film festivals, such as the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankylä, Finland in 2011 and at the 2014 European Media Art Festival in Osnabrück, Germany. In 2014, the works of Berg have also been on display in exhibitions at Helsinki Art Museum’s Kluuvi Gallery, Mänttä Art Festival and Forum Box Gallery’s MediaBox.
