Lauri Astala’s (b. 1958) short film Transit (2014) will be seen in its furthest destination yet, as AV-arkki is pleased to present it at the 7th Antarctic Short, Documentary and Animation Film Festival in Finnish Antarctic research station Aboa (73°03’S, 13°25’W) in Queen Maud Land, in the Vestfjella Mountains in continent of Antarctica.
The festival introduces selected films from East to West and North to South. This year’s program includes 30 artworks (of which 10 animations, 9 documentaries, 8 short fictions, 2 experimental and 1 music video) from 21 countries.
The FINNARP 2015 expedition started their journey on November 20 and will return in mid-February 2016. The festival screenings will be held throughout the expedition.
Transit presents documentary shots of New York that are altered by camera movements, angles and framing. The theme of Transit evolves around the collective visual ideas and notions of the urban environment.
The film has been frequently presented in international competitions of distinguished film festivals in Europe and Asia, including 21st Leuven Short Film Festival, Belgium; Asiana International Short Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea; Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival and Hamburg International Short Film Festival in Germany; VIDEOFORMES Digital Arts Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and Odense International Film Festival in Denmark.
