Salla Myllylä's My Tree at Tehran International Short Film Festival
Salla Myllylä’s My Tree (2015) is screened at the 33rd Tehran International Short Film Festival, held in Iran from November 8–14. The film is selected in the Video Art Section.
In My Tree, a hand paints an outline for a tree on a window on a sunny spring day. People and cars pass by in the suburban backyard. The painting advances little by little. Passing of seasons is filmed through the aperture created by painting. The work describes a gesture of mark making and note taking in an everyday environment.
Salla Myllylä lives and works in Helsinki. She graduated from Free Art School in 2009 and from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki in 2014. Her work moves between drawing, painting and moving images, and is always site specific. Myllylä’s works have been presented in exhibitions at e.g. Gallery Huuto Jätkäsaari in Helsinki (2013), Frankfurter Kunstverein (2014), Charlottenborg Kunsthal in Copenhagen (2012) and in festivals such as Helsinki Short Film Festival (2012), art:screen festival in Orebro, Sweden (2012) and Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival in Bristol (2012).
