Three films from AV-arkki’s distribution have been selected for exground filmfest, taking place in Wiesbaden, Germany between November 13 – 22, 2015.
Barbieworld Experience Part 1 – Overture (2014) by Dave Berg (b. 1981) and Primus Tempus (2014) by Azar Saiyar (b. 1979) are screened in front of feature films and Lauri Astala’s (b. 1958) Transit (2014) in the Best of Shorts programme.
Dave Berg‘s animation Barbieworld Experience Part 1 – Overture depicts a dense, nightly atmosphere in an interior resembling a castle. Chairs fly in whirlwinds, unexpected and dreamlike events take place.
Berg graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. He uses computer animation, intensity and poetic narration in his works that have been presented at various art and film festivals.
Saiyar’s Primus Tempus consists of fragments of television commercials that create an illusion separate from the original images.
Azar Saiyar is an Iranian-Finnish visual artist and filmmaker who grew up in Finland and Sweden, and graduated from Turku Arts Academy in 2004 and from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2009.
Transit presents documentary shots of New York altered by camera movements, angles and framing. The film’s cinematography and visual language have convinced juries and audiences at international festivals and events around the world.
Astala is one of of the most distinguished media artists in Finland who makes sculptures, videos and installations that concentrate on concepts and experiences of space and the ways in which cultural structures shapes them.
