Elli Vuorinen’s new animation Still Lives (2019) starts its festival life at four film festivals. It will premiere in the experimental competition of the International Animation Short Film Festival Roanne, held from March 18–24 in France. The screening takes place on Sunday, March 24 at 11:00.  After that, Still Lives will be screened at Mecal – International Short Film Festival of Barcelona, held from March 28 to April 14. Vuorinen’s short animation is included in the screening “Oblique“, screened on Friday, March 29, at 20:00. The opening tour will continue to ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival, held from April 5–7 in Paris with screening on Friday, April 5, at 20:35 in Les 7 Parnassiens Cinéma, and to Animocje, the 9th International Animated Film Festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with “Play Off” screening on Thursday, April 4, at 19:30.

In Still Lives, the concept of busy stillness is explored from various standpoints as museum artefacts from all around the world reflect on the mundane challenges of modern life.

Elli Vuorinen is an animation artist who lives and works in rural Finland. Her works often balance between surreal, delightful and disgusting. Although her approach is often humoristic the films deal with significant themes of melancholy, solitude and hope. Vuorinen’s style is versatile – blending of minimal and handcrafted, she creates works that are playful and bold. Different animation techniques inspire her work. Vuorinen’s farm studio allows her to work with everything between large scale stop motion to 2D computer animation.
