According to van Ingen’s statement, the selection of four 35 mm analogue films represent his rigorous attempts to explore analogue cinema as a possibility for artistic expression—using home movies, found footage and obscure home-grown technologies. The making of the films was governed by coincidences, the unforgiving nature of the analogue film medium as well as ideas of recycling culture and technology.
The curators of the Biennale, Gabriela Golder and Andrés Denegri, visited Finland in March invited by AV-arkki, Frame, the Finnish Institute in Madrid, and Tampere Film Festival. More information about the visit here (in Finnish).
