Films by Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Joakim Pusenius, Jan Ijäs, and Pink Twins at Rencontres Internationales
Short films by Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Joakim Pusenius, Jan Ijäs, and Pink Twins are screened at Rencontres Internationales. The festival is held in Paris from April 10–15.
Eija-Liisa Ahtila‘s Studies on the Ecology of Drama (2017) is included in the opening screening of the festival. The screening takes place on Tuesday, April 10, at 19:30 in Forum des Images. Studies on the Ecology of Drama is an artwork about methods of presentation as a path to other living creatures. It questions the anthropocentrism of the film language and aims at the new balance between humans, animals and plants.
Joakim Pusenius’s I Don’t Know the River (2016) will be screened in the programme “Sans issue” on Wednesday, April 11, at 19:30 in Luminor Hôtel de Ville. It is an experimental documentary film on three peculiar events that took place in three different forests.
Jan Ijäs’s Social Connection (2016) is included in the screening “Machine à fiction” on Wednesday, April 11, at 21:30 in Luminor Hôtel de Ville. The film’s dialogue has been copied from online forums as is, with no editing. Many times these “faceless” online conversations end up to a very surreal limbo.
Pink Twins’s Overlook will be screened in the programme “Cinéma revisité”, on Saturday, April 14, at 21:30 in Forum des Images. Impossible architecture, an ancient burial ground and a lure for psychotic janitors were the building blocks of Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. In this story vignette, chaos animators Pink Twins add zero gravity and a rupture in space-time continuum to the mix and serve a taster of subtle cosmic horror.
