Maarit Suomi-Väänänen's Minispectacles As Nice as Pies at MODEM, Hungary

The most recent part of Maarit Suomi-Väänänen’s ongoing series Minispectacles is installed in the exhibition Receptors at MODEM, Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts, Debrecen, Hungary. The exhibition is open from June 24, 2017 to January 5, 2018.

The exhibition presents a joint selection by artist Hilda Kozári and art historian Katalin T. Nagy, establishing a special sensory connection between the collection, the contemporary works and the visitors. Invited for the exhibition, Suomi-Väänänen’s video installation Minispectacles As Nice as Pies (2017) is made accessible for disabled audiences as well. Suomi-Väänänen will give an artist talk with a screening in November in Debrecen and Budapest.

Minispectacles is a series of one minute films, cinematic haikus.

Minispectacles As Nice As Pies follows North African refugees making Karelian Pies, Finnish national food, for the first time.
