Lauri Astala's Transit at House of Electronic Arts Basel, Dec 15
The screening, taking place on December 15, is organised on the occasion of ‘The Worlds They Wanted’, an exhibition about Film and Architecture at the Swiss Architecture Museum.
The screening presents positions, which reflect urban areas, and the (im)materiality of the internet. Others play with possibilities of the digital and break the barriers of the physical spaces, so that our known world is manipulated.
Participating artists are:
Lauri Astala (Transit), Emma Charles (Fragments of Machines), Niklas Goldbach (Ten), Vladislav Knezevic (A.D.A.M.), Joni Männistö (Electric Soul), Ivar Veermäe (Crystal Computing) und Florine Leoni (Your territory)
Transit presents documentary shots of New York that are altered by camera movements, angles and framing. This builds up a new fictitious urban space, whose visual familiarity stems from the history of film. The theme of Transit evolves around the collective visual ideas and notions of the urban environment. The film gained the Jury’s Special Mention at the 13th AISFF – Asiana International Short Film Festival in November 2015.
Lauri Astala is one of of the most distinguished media artists in Finland, whose videos, installations and sculptures have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world since 1989. Astala was awarded with the Finnish State Prize for Visual Arts in 2007.
Transit has been seen in international film festivals around the world. Read more:
