Lauri Astala's Transit at Leuven Short Film Festival, Nov 27 – Dec 5
Transit participates in the LABO program, that focuses on experimental films.
Astala’s film presents documentary shots of New York that are altered by camera movements, angles and framing. The theme of Transit evolves around the collective visual ideas and notions of the urban environment.
The film has been frequently presented in international competitions of distinguished film festivals in Europe and Asia, including Asiana International Short Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea, Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival and Hamburg International Short Film Festival in Germany, VIDEOFORMES Digital Arts Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and Odense International Film Festival in Denmark.
Lauri Astala is one of of the most distinguished media artists in Finland, whose videos, installations and sculptures have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world since 1989.
Astala was awarded with the Finnish State Prize for Visual Arts in 2007.
Astala graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 1989 and Chicago Art Institute in 2001. He lives and works in Helsinki, Finland and Avalon, France.
