The Factory of the World by Rainio & Roberts in the Short Film Competition @ FIFE, Paris
Minna Rainio‘s and Mark Roberts‘ The Factory of the World is screened in the Short Film Competition of FIFE – International Environmental Film Festival. Organised from April 5—8, the festival spreads across art house theatres in Paris and its surroundings the main venue being Le Cinéma des cinéastes.
The Factory of the World was shot in a former electronics factory in northern Finland. The factory is closed since 2003, when the production was moved to China. The images are juxtaposed with voice-over narration about the working conditions in Chinese factories.
Minna Rainio (b. 1974, Finland) and Mark Roberts (b. 1970, England) are an artist duo living and working in Finland. Their research-based work investigates the impact of social and political power on individual experience and history — and its manifestation in physical spaces.
