Video art by Sini Pelkki, Tuomas A. Laitinen, and Jaakko Pallasvuo, Antti Jussila & Jari Kallio will be screened at the 32nd European Media Art Festival (EMAF), held in Osnabrück from April 24–28. Pelkki’s Sheet no4 (2018) and Pallasvuo’s, Jussila’s & Kallio’s Fruits of the Loom (2019) were selected in the competition programme while Laitinen’s Dossier of Tentacular (2018) is included in the thematic programme Wild Grammar.

Sheet No4 examines the outlines and borders of a photograph and a human being. Sheet No4 refers to a contact sheet; a sketch of a photograph, where different options and outlines are visible. The starting point of the work is interaction and interpretation between Pelkki and the multidisciplinary artist involved in the work; Emma Hammarén, Johan Jonason, Magnús Logi Kristinsson, Keiko Yamamoto as well as cinematographer Pietari Peltola and sound designer Anne Tolkkinen. The screening of Sheet no4 takes place on Friday, April 26, at 17:00 in Filmtheater Hasetor.

In Fruits of the Loom, a communist and a capitalist set for a quest to find the lost utopia by breaking into abandoned summer cottages. Instead of a possible cohabitation, a bewitched future is incubated in the icy waters. Fruits of the Loom will be screened on Sunday, April 28, at 13:00 in Lagerhalle.

Dossier of Tentacular is included in the screening Wild Grammar: Textual Entanglements, curated by Caspar Stracke and Gabriela Monroy. It will be screened on Friday, April 26, at 13:00 in Lagerhalle. Dossier of Tentacular is a knotty and tragicomic organism that explores the techniques behind information production and dissemination, as well as ecological change and issues related to neoliberal language. The visual form of the work is reminiscent of a notebook whose pages become filled with pictures, diagrams and notes. The texts explore different ways to use language: one mode is like an expository lecture, while the other consists of poetic expressions created by an artificial intelligence that was whose source material is the collected works of Samuel Beckett. Based on keywords and triggers associated with the theme of the video, the algorithm generates absurd and laborious poetry. These elements combine in a chaotic way in the video, creating overlapping metafictive layers.
