After Everything by Pekka Sassi in the International Competition of the 21st L’ÉTRANGE FESTIVAL in Paris, Sept 3 – 13, 2015.
The short film After Everything (2014) by Pekka Sassi (b. 1969) has been selected to participate in the International short-length competition of the 21st L’ÉTRANGE FESTIVAL, held at the Forum des Images in Paris from September 3 to 13, 2015.
After Everything presents a dystopian world where brutality and inhumanity are commonplace and part of everyday routine. The atmosphere of doom is emphasized by the combination of black and white footage, harsh settings and industrial noise music. The powerful story leads to a situation in which brutality is victorious, yet beyond total destruction there is also room for a new beginning.
Pekka Sassi is a wide-ranging artist who has studied in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. He makes experimental sound and video works, many of which are purely sound pieces and audio installations. Sassi has made over 100 short films and videos since 1995. His works have been presented at several domestic and foreign festivals. He was awarded with the AVEK Prize for audio-visual art in 2006 and in 2010 he won the prize for best film in EMAF in Osnabruck, Germany.
In September, After Everything has its Latin American premiere at SHORTS MÉXICO – Festival Internacional de Cortometrajes de México. The 10th edition will take place in Mexico City from September 3 through September 10, 2015.
Since its inception, L’ÉTRANGE FESTIVAL has showcased the most exciting examples of contemporary genre cinema from every corner of the globe, ranging from outlandish genre films, provocative documentaries, unsettling dramas, black comedies, anything that might be coined as “off-beat and unconventional”.
