Heidi Tikka is a practicing media artist and a researcher. Since 2003 she has worked on Tilanteita, a series of participatory mobile experiments involving families in mms based communication. Her other work includes a series of internationally shown interactive video projections. These installations document certain key moments in the changing relationship between mother and child. She is the recipient of the Finnish AVEK 2004 Media Art award.

Both in her research and her art, she has inquired into affective exchanges and technologies, arguing for the social and cultural situatedness of an affective experience. As part of this work, she is currently completing her doctorate thesis at the UIAH Media Lab, where she has also been teaching media art and media culture since 1997, of which 2001-2002 as the acting professor in multimedia and communication.
