AV-arkki in Brief

AV-arkki, the Distribution Centre for Finnish Media Art, is a non-profit artists’ association. It was founded in 1989 and now has approximately 170 Finnish artists as its members. AV-arkki’s main purpose is to distribute Finnish media art to festivals, events, museums and galleries within Finland and internationally. AV-arkki offers individual works and curated compilations, and also expertise in media art through collaborating on projects. AV-arkki organizes screenings and exhibitions of Finnish and international media art with its partners. Av-arkki also has a digital distribution archive and an online archive open to curators, researchers, teachers, critics and artists. AV-arkki promotes its members’ interests and media art and media culture in general.

AV-arkki has been a pioneering distributor of Finnish media art for over 22 years and has opened up opportunities for artists to get their works recognized internationally. The activities of AV-arkki have contributed to the success that Finnish media art enjoys today. These activities are unique in both Finland and the other Nordic countries.

The artists and works section of AV-arkki’s online service contains detailed information on ca. 1500 works of media art in AV-arkki’s, including video previews on more than 80% of the titles. Annually ca. 70 – 150 new titles of Finnish media art and experimental moving image are added to AV-arkki’s selection.


AV-arkki distributes Finnish media art that has been produced by members of the association. Professional artists working in the fied of media art, who live pernanently in Finland and/or are Finnish citizens and/or have such a strong connebtion to Finland that their work can be seen as Finnish media art, can apply for AV-arkki’s membership.
